Ode to Kaysville

Yesterday, as I drove the deserted streets of good old Kaysville, I smiled. I smiled remembering all of the memories of the town I was born and raised in. I love my hometown! I have only lived in two other cities other than Kaysville and I found things about them that I loved but there is just something about Kaysville that I love going back to. I will admit that I would love to move back to K-town some day. I’m not ashamed to admit it. I loved growing up there and I would to raise my family there. For those of you who have not had the “Kaysville Experience,” I will tell you a few reasons why K-town is the best. First and foremost and in one word: Tasty’s. On a different day Tasty’s may not be number one but I am sure craving a good donut. Tasty’s has the best donuts, I have ever had. I have had lots of donuts in my lifetime. Kaysville housed the first Tasty’s. I really could us a chocolate glazed donut right now. Plus, there breakfast sandwiches are delicious. Second, Bowmans. I have been to all three locations that Bowmans has been in Kaysville. I remember when it was the only grocery store in Kaysville and vowing to boycott Albertson’s when it came to town. Why is Bowmans so great? Well, I love that they aren’t open on Sunday’s and don’t sell alcohol. How could a grocery store survive by keeping such a rare standard? I don’t know but they seem to be doing great. Plus, half of the high school worked for Bowmans including my best friends Neil and Ian. I spent many hours hanging out with them while they worked. I even ditched school to hang out there. Then there was the tradition of renting a movie and getting drinks and treats from Bowmans. Bowmans was the place to be Friday night. Third, Cosmos. Seriously, how could a video store survive these days still using a card system instead of a computer? But Cosmos, has the best selection of horror/mystery movies. Plus, you gotta love the brown cases your movies come in. Finally, the Kaysville Theater. It used to be a dollar theater but now the price has doubled. I remember the days when it was just one big theater and everyone in Kaysville went there for family night. Although, I think it was a good move to divide it into more theaters. I miss seeing movies there. Plus, who can forget the legendary scene shown before every movie. Two guys are watching a movie and all you see is their feet as one neatly puts down his treats while the other throws them everywhere and as he slowly lifts up his foot revealing a giant wad of pink gum stuck to his shoe and everyone yells, “EEWWWWWW.” I love it!

Kaysville sure isn’t the same anymore. It is no longer the one stop light and one grocery store town that I grew up loving. But I still love Kaysville and I can’t complain that a Pizza Hut finally came to town. Tell me about your hometowns on your blogs!
