Neil and I did end up justifying driving an hour just to see some movies. It ended up being a good thing. Except, we didn't see the two movies that we wanted to see over the break. In any case, we did see two other movies on our list. We saw "Valkyrie" and "Marley and Me." The problem with both of these movies is that I knew what was going to happen. Just like when I saw "Titanic" I knew the boat would sink. But somehow after seeing the love story between Jack and Rose, I hoped the boat wouldn't sink. But it did sink and I cried. Same thing happened in "Valkyrie" I desperately wanted the assassination attempt to work and slightly hoped that history could be changed through a movie but history did not change. We all know what happened. In fact, not only was the attempt unsuccessful but what resulted was horrific. So now I have completely made you decide to not see it right? Well, it is still worth seeing because they never teach you in school about the powerful people who opposed Hitler.
Then, I made the mistake of seeing "Marley and Me." My Mom had read the book and told me about it. So I pretty much knew what to expect. But as with all books and movies about animals, they die. I read "Black Beauty" as a very young child and was forever traumatized. They always die and I always cry. But the worst part about the movie was that the first 3/4 of the movie was light hearted and funny. And then they drag out the death of the poor dog. Seriously, they decided to just throw all the tender moments between man and dog in just to make you cry that much more. I was already sobbing because I have a beautiful lab that is starting to get older and I know sometime in the near future, I will have to make the horrible decision as to when to let him go. So seeing a movie about a dog dying just wasn't the best idea. Why couldn't they have just ended on a happy note and just eluded to the fact the dog died?
Anyway, I am just too upset by those movies to even think about new years resolutions yet. I have one for now though, stop seeing movies that are predictable. If you know what happens, just leave it that way. You don't need to see a movie about it.
