I am beginning to realize that perhaps I should have made this a book blog instead of my mostly random thoughts and rants. I recently decided that even though I had justified this blog as a journal, the internet is just not the best place for that. So I actually started a traditional journal again. Thus, my lack of blogging. However, when I do have random thoughts that I find blog worthy they will end up here. For example, I spent almost the entire weekend reading. I finished the book Neil had me read. It really wasn't that bad, in fact the writing was excellent (David Weber was the author). The characters and concept were even interesting especially how much women were empowered but all the war and space stuff just went over my head.
Then a book I have been waiting for came available at the library. In fact two books did at the same time. I hate having to place holds on every single book I want to read and then having to wait for sometimes months just to get my hands on it. Then of course 3 out of the 20 holds I have come available at the same time and I have to read non-stop. In any case, I felt pressured to finish one of the shorter books, so I would have more time for the longer book. So I read the entire book on Sunday. I hadn't intended too, it just happened. It was the new book by Mary Higgins Clark and it was one of her better ones in the last few years.
So now I am reading The Woman in White. I honestly have never heard of this book until it was referenced several times in another book that I read recently. It sounded intriguing and I was sold when I read the back of the book which said, ". . . is the first and most influential of the Victorian genre that combined Gothic horror with psychological realism." Honestly, I am not familiar with Gothic horror or exactly what "psychological realism" means but it sure sounds fascinating. What are you reading?

O.k, I guess I will be on the waiting list for a while, but my next website is to the library to put this on hold! It sounds really good! Please let me know what you think of it.
I didn't read a woman in white until the last few years. What's next on your list?
I'm reading John Adams by David McCullough- long and not a quick read but definitely on the list of those who hope to remain a free people under the constitution. It gives new meaning to pledging "our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor." Also, I'm reading The Soul of a Horse by Joe Camp. He's the one who wrote the story of Benji (the dog) and learned about horses from the real life horse-whisperer, Monty Roberts. Light, fun reading. I like real-life stories.
Good job reading! I'm reading a youth book called "The Mysterious Benedict Society" and it's okay. I like the story well enough, but the writing isn't the best I've read. Oh, and I only have 3 pages left in it. :)
Next up is "The Thirteenth Tale". I read your review and I'm intrigued. :)
The Secret Life of Bees...I wanted to read a good, smart, classic literature book, like you always do, so I checked it out. But I've been trying to read it for almost two weeks now, and I'm only on chapter 2!? You inspire me though...hopefully I'll get it read before the library makes me take it back! :)
I totally chickened out on Racing in the Rain after the first two chapters. I can't handle sad dog stories. :P So I decided to try Look Homeward, Angel by Thomas Wolfe. I also checked out The Thirteenth Tale and The Alchemist.
